He Repeats Himself: On Grief, Business, and a God Who Keeps His Word

Some seasons, that is all you have. And honestly? In some seasons, that is enough.

But I want to be real with you—there are days when I want more. When the prayer feels thin and the word feels far away. When I am grieving the loss of someone who believed in me when I lost belief in myself. When I am quietly mourning the ideas I had for my life, for my business, for what I thought God was building through me.

Maybe you know that grief. Not the kind that announces itself loudly, but the kind that sits with you at your desk at 6 a.m. while you are trying to show up for a business that still needs you—even when you need someone too.

When the Word Is from God, Is It Enough?

I think God is good with the question.

He is not surprised when we come back to Him and say, “I heard You. I believe You. But I need to hear it again.”

The promises in Scripture are rarely one-and-done. He repeats Himself—over and over, across different books, different voices, different centuries—the same God saying the same thing in a hundred different ways.

Why? Because He knows who He is talking to.

He knows we will forget. He knows we will wonder if it still applies—to us, to this situation, to this version of our lives that looks nothing like what we planned. He knows we will need to hear it again on a Tuesday when the client did not come through, when the collaboration fell apart, and when the person who championed us is no longer here.

So He says it again. And again. And again. That is not weakness on our part. That is covenant.

The Promise Is Still Standing

“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing—through the experience of your faith—that by the power of the Holy Spirit you will abound in hope and overflow with confidence in His promises.”

–Romans 15:13

He is not asking you to manufacture hope on your own or to pretend the grief is not real. He is saying: Let Me fill you. Even the shaky, tear-stained, I-am-not-sure-I-can-do-this kind of faith is the very place where He pours in hope. Overflowing. Confident. Not because everything is fine, but because He is faithful.

“God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea.”

–Psalm 46:1–2

The Psalmist was not writing from a place of perfect peace. The mountains were falling, the waters were roaring—and yet, therefore we will not fear. Not because the storm stopped. Because God did not.

He Has Given Us Promises—and People Who Lived Them

Whether you are waiting like Abraham and Sarah—holding a covenant that looked, by every human measure, like it had run out of time—or whether you are like Joseph, carrying a dream that the people closest to you not only failed to believe in but failed to support you through—God has not just given us promises. He has given us examples.

Abraham waited decades. Joseph was betrayed, sold, and forgotten in a prison cell. And still—the Lord was with Joseph (Genesis 39:21). Not when the dream was fulfilled. In the pit. In the prison. In the waiting.

Jacob, running scared and alone in the dark, received this:

 “I am with you and will watch over you wherever you go... I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you.”

–Genesis 28:15

God did not wait for Jacob to get it together. He showed up in the middle of an uncertain journey and said: I am still here. I have not forgotten the promise.

What I love about our God is this—He has never required perfection as the price of His presence. Abraham doubted. David committed adultery and killed. And every single one of them was held safely, comforted, loved, and chosen anyway. You do not have to be perfect to be held by Him. That is the covenant.

For the Kingdom Entrepreneur Who Is Grieving Right Now

Building a business as a person of faith is not just a professional journey—it is a deeply personal one. The losses we carry into our work are not always line items on a spreadsheet. Sometimes they are people. Dreams. The version of the future we held in our hands and had to let go of.

And sometimes the grief is quieter than that. It is the support you gave that was never returned. The time, the energy, the resources you released in faith—and now you are wondering, Where is my harvest? Where is my support?

“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”

–Galatians 6:9

The harvest is not lost. The promise is not canceled. Trust the One who goes before you into every room you have not yet entered. Trust the One whose faithfulness is not tied to whether the people around you show up—because He always does.

“The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.”

–Deuteronomy 31:8

God sees the grief and the business at the same time. He is not waiting for you to heal before He moves. He is present in the in-between—in the prayer that barely makes it out, in the word you have read a hundred times but needed to read again today.

He is a Covenant-Keeper. Not because circumstances cooperate, but because His character does not change.

You are allowed to need more. You are allowed to go back to the promise and say, “Remind me again.”

He will.
