When Words are Intimidating

Words

Words—God's words in the Bible can deeply resonate with those who are "churched," meaning they are familiar with its teachings, stories, and terminology through regular exposure in worship, study, and conversation. Terms like "grace," "salvation," or "repentance" are often deeply understood and carry rich spiritual significance for those immersed in church culture.

However, for the "unchurched"—individuals who have not been exposed to these words in everyday life—these words can feel foreign, confusing, or even intimidating. Without the context provided by regular engagement with Christian teachings, phrases that seem straightforward to believers may require careful explanation or translation into more universally understood language. Bridging this gap requires empathy and a willingness to break down complex ideas into relatable and inclusive terms, ensuring that the message of the Bible can reach and resonate with all.
