Start Fresh: Faith and Wellness Through God's Promises

Change is hard, but staying the same? That can be even harder, especially when it comes to our health and wellness. As Christian women, we often face unique challenges in prioritizing our well-being. Between family, work, ministry, and the expectations we place on ourselves, it’s easy to let our own needs fall by the wayside. Yet, the truth remains: you are worth it. Living a healthy, vibrant life is not only a gift to yourself but also what Jesus desires for you.

Start Where You Are

It’s tempting to look at where you are right now and feel overwhelmed. Perhaps you’ve fallen short of your goals, struggled with consistency, or faced setbacks. Let me reassure you—there is no shame in starting where you are. The Bible reminds us, “His mercies are new every morning” (Lamentations 3:22-23). Today is a fresh opportunity to begin again, to take one small step toward health and healing.

Too often, we judge ourselves harshly for where we fall short. We compare ourselves to others, magnifying their strengths while focusing on our own perceived weaknesses. But God doesn’t see us that way. He sees us as His beloved daughters, full of potential and possibility. When we learn to extend grace to ourselves, just as God extends grace to us, we free ourselves to take action without fear of failure.

Change Is Hard, but Staying the Same Is Harder

Let’s face it: making changes in our health and wellness can be challenging. It requires effort, intentionality, and perseverance. But staying stuck in unhealthy patterns often costs us more—physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Poor health can drain our energy, hinder our ability to serve others, and cloud our joy.

Jesus said, “I came that they may have life and have it abundantly” (John 10:10). Abundant life includes the freedom to live fully in the body God has given us. While the journey to wellness may not always be easy, it’s one worth taking. It’s an act of stewardship—caring for the temple of the Holy Spirit within us (1 Corinthians 6:19-20).

Practical Steps Toward Health

1.    Set Realistic Goals: Start small and build from there. Whether it’s drinking more water, taking daily walks, or preparing healthier meals, small changes add up over time.

2.    Seek Accountability: Find a trusted friend, mentor, or group to support and encourage you. Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 says, “Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up.”

3.    Invite God Into the Process: Prayer is a powerful tool for transformation. Ask God for strength, guidance, and perseverance as you take steps toward better health. Philippians 4:13 reminds us, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”

4.    Celebrate Progress: Acknowledge and celebrate the small victories along the way. Every step forward is a step closer to the abundant life God wants for you.

You Are Worth It

One of the biggest hurdles to making lasting changes is believing you’re worth the effort. Let me remind you: you are deeply loved by God. He cares about every aspect of your life, including your health and wellness. Psalm 139:14 declares, “I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.” You are a masterpiece, created by God with intention and purpose.

Taking care of your health isn’t selfish; it’s a way to honor the gift of life God has given you. When you’re healthy, you’re better equipped to serve your family, community, and the kingdom of God. You’re able to fulfill your calling with energy, passion, and joy.

As you embark on the journey of change, remember to give yourself grace. Change is a process, a journey, not an event. There will be days when you stumble or feel like giving up, but those moments do not define you. It's never about the times we give up, it's always about the times we keep going.  Decide today to show up for YOU, show up for God.

God’s love for you is unchanging, and His strength is made perfect in your weakness (2 Corinthians 12:9).

Take heart and trust that with God’s help, you can overcome the obstacles in your path. Each step you take toward health and wellness is an act of faith—a declaration that you trust in God’s promises and His plan for your life.

Health and wellness are about more than just physical fitness or eating right. They’re about living in alignment with God’s design for your life—thriving, not just surviving. Change may be hard, but staying the same is harder. You are worth the effort it takes to live a healthy, abundant life, and that is exactly what Jesus wants for you.

So, start where you are. Let go of self-judgment. Take small steps forward with faith and courage. And always remember: you don’t walk this journey alone. God is with you, cheering you on every step of the way, and so am I!
